    Art Academy IS...

Personalized art classes for children, available in
the City of Falls Church. Professional art instructor Sally Evans teaches a combination
of guided and open-ended projects chosen to expose students to new techniques and materials.
Students enlarge their creative capacity while learning the underlying basic elements of art.
Problem solving, peer encouragement, collaboration, and a dab of art history are always on the palette.
Class-size limit of 8 students per class ensure generous personal attention. And, because
of its unique location within the Falls Church Arts Central gallery (700 W. Broad St.),
students are exposed to current art makers and surrounded by contemporary works.

    Art Academy BELIEVES...

All children are creative, but successful art production requires both
exposure to different mediums and lots of practice. Musical performers cannot just sit down
and expect to play a complicated song without learning to read music or gaining an
understanding of basic rhythms; similarly, children need to understand the basic elements
of visual art in order to produce truly satisfying artwork. Students learn to trust their own
instincts as they make artistic choices in an encouraging, upbeat environment.

    Art Academy INVITES YOU...

If you have a child age 7-17 and would like to enrich your child’s art experience and education, please consider FCA Academy classes.
Classes are held once a week for 1.5 hours in 6 week sessions beginning in September and running throughout the school year. There is a summer experience which is half day (with the option of full day) M-F in one-week blocks during the summer.

    Academy Policies

    Some stuff to understand

SETTING...Art instruction in an actual art gallery, wow! FCA is a working gallery, open to the public, light-filled, creative space. That privilege comes with some behavioral expectations including respect of the art around us as well as our classmates and instructor.

COST... Our prices are $195 per school-year session and $270 for summer session including all materials (we use the good stuff.)

FULL/EMPTY…Class size is limited to 9 students to maintain an optimal student/teacher ratio. If the capacity has been reached, we will maintain a waiting list. If on the off chance a class does not meet its minimum required students (3), you will be notified and receive a full refund.

AGE-APPROPRIATE…Classes are divided into two age groups, 7-11 and 12 up. Though sessions are mixed age, projects and techniques will be modified to give each artist the best experience at his or her individual development level. In the younger group we complete several projects over the course of a session using a variety of materials and focusing on artistic decisions and the elements of art. The older class focuses more on refining artistic skills and craftsmanship across a variety of mediums.

MULTIPLE SESSIONS… We would love to see your student for multiple sessions and will do our best to make each set of projects unique.

DROP OFF/PICK UP… Since we are an “urban” campus with limited parking, you will need to be prompt when picking up your students. Drop off and pick up is from our back door in the covered garage off Lee Street. We will have them cleaned up and ready for you.

CLOTHING... Art is messy business folks, dress appropriately.

PHOTOGRAPHY...Kids love their photos taken with their art but we will never publish your child's name.
